Bring the colours of the natural world indoors with this blue dragonfly beaded textile art, inspired by Sue’s fascination with these remarkable creatures.
Keen to explore different fabrics and techniques, Sue created a dragonfly whose vivid colours stand out against a black fabric background embellished with sequins. The fabric sections are sewn to create a cushioned, raised effect, emphasising the structure of each part of the dragonfly’s body and giving the piece depth and texture.
Large antique crystals, individually sewn by hand, catch the light to suggest sunlight falling across a dragonfly’s transparent wings. The sequins add further reflections, bringing little flashes of light to the dark background.
The blues are colours Sue couldn’t resist using, making this piece a personal expression of her love of dragonflies and the pleasure she finds in experimenting with textiles.
